Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk announced on the 4th that it signed a "Smart Hub Complex (tentative name for Samsung Electronics Honam logistics base) development project sales contract" with Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. at the county office meeting room the day before.
The sales contract signing ceremony was attended by Shim Deok-seop, Gochang County Governor, Lim Jeong-ho, Chairman of the Gochang County Council, and executives including Kim Dong-wook, Vice President of Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., headquartered in Suwon, Gyeonggi-do, is a top-tier company manufacturing semiconductors and electronic products. Through this sales contract, it will accelerate the establishment of a large-scale logistics center in the Honam region to facilitate smooth logistics and distribution in the southern area.
Samsung Electronics will purchase 181,625㎡ (equivalent to 25 soccer fields) of the Gochang New Vitality Industrial Complex to build an advanced logistics center integrated with automation technology.
The logistics center is scheduled to begin construction in the first half of next year and be completed within 2027. During construction, priority is expected to be given to utilizing and hiring local companies and workforce in construction and mechanical equipment sectors.
Samsung Electronics plans to invest approximately 300 billion KRW in the logistics center development, which is also expected to create around 500 direct and indirect jobs.
Gochang-gun and Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province quickly initiated consultations to change the Gochang New Vitality Industrial Complex plan, and approval for changes such as industry attraction modifications was completed in March this year.
Samsung Electronics plans to consider introducing AI, robotics, and automated warehouse systems as part of the automated logistics center construction project in Gochang.
The function of logistics has shifted from simple roles such as procurement and delivery to a strategic concept that serves as a source of competitive advantage for companies, establishing itself as an important industry that creates high added value.
In particular, the Gochang Smart Hub Complex planned by Samsung Electronics is based on automation, where the interlocking and maintenance of each piece of equipment are key points. This naturally raises expectations for a chain of investments and relocations by companies specializing in automation equipment such as robots, conveyors, and sorters.
Governor Shim Deok-seop said, "The large-scale sales contract between Samsung Electronics and Gochang-gun is a major event that will change the entire industrial structure of Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province, including Gochang-gun," adding, "We will continue to do our best to create jobs and revitalize the local economy through more aggressive corporate attraction."
