Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, Celebrates 130th Anniversary of Gwangseong Middle and High School Opening

Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo District, attended the commemorative event on the morning of the 3rd celebrating the 130th anniversary of Gwangseong Middle and High School.


Located in Sinsu-dong, Mapo District, Gwangseong Middle and High School began as Gwangseong Academy, founded by missionary William James Hall in Pyongyang on April 6, 1894, and was relocated to its current location in 1961.


The event, opened with a welcoming speech by Jeong Woo-sung, principal of Gwangseong High School, proceeded with a commemorative worship service, an introduction to the school's history, an award ceremony by Kim Young-chan, principal of Gwangseong Middle School, a commemorative address by Choi Jun-su, chairman of Gwangseong Academy, and congratulatory speeches by guests, concluding with various celebratory performances.


In his congratulatory speech, Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo District, said, “I sincerely congratulate Gwangseong Middle and High School on its 130th anniversary,” adding, “It is very proud and reassuring that Mapo District has such a prestigious school as Gwangseong Middle and High School.”


He further added, “I hope that we can continue to jointly promote various educational projects for the development of Mapo District and Gwangseong Academy in the future.”
