Deputy Mayor of Dongjak-gu Dies, 3rd Day "Cause of Death Unknown," All Executives Remain Silent Amid Quiet Atmosphere
The current Deputy Mayor of Dongjak-gu died by suicide, but since no one knows the cause, the internal staff at the district office are clearly curious while also mourning the deceased.
In particular, there are no reports that the Deputy Mayor ever expressed dissatisfaction during meetings with executives, and it is said that no one noticed anything unusual as he often smiled and spoke positively.
A Dongjak-gu official stated, “No one knows why the Deputy Mayor suddenly made such an extreme choice,” adding, “We have received inquiries from outside, but since we don’t know anything, we are keeping quiet.”
Officials from Seoul City are also frustrated that the cause remains unknown despite the Deputy Mayor, a graduate of the 35th Administrative Examination and a former high-ranking official (Grade 3) in Seoul City, suddenly passing away.
A senior Seoul City official said, “I don’t know why such a tragic event happened,” and added, “I asked around, but no one knows anything.”
Another executive from a Seoul autonomous district said, “We have no idea why the current Deputy Mayor would make such an extreme choice,” but also expressed the view that “perhaps the cause will be revealed over time.”
A Dongjak-gu official said, “The cause will surely become clear someday,” and suggested that we should wait and see.
Meanwhile, on the labor union bulletin board, while mourning the Deputy Mayor’s death, some posts have drawn attention by criticizing the workplace atmosphere.
