Cultural Heritage Administration Supports Restoration of East Timor's National Heritage

Introduction to Key Policies Related to the National Heritage System

On the 3rd, the Cultural Heritage Administration introduced key policies related to the national heritage system to the Ministry of Culture and Arts of Timor-Leste, which visited Korea for a policy training session. They explained the role of the Cultural Heritage Administration, international development cooperation (ODA) policies, major policies following the significant transition from the Cultural Heritage Protection Act to the Basic National Heritage Act, and the background and process of promoting modern cultural heritage policies. An official stated, “This is an opportunity to enhance understanding of our government’s evolving major policies and the long-accumulated protection system for various types of heritage,” adding, “We expect this to contribute to strengthening Timor-Leste’s capacity for cultural heritage preservation and management.”

The briefing was attended by Gil Paulino dos Santos Oliveira, Director of the Ministry of Culture and Arts of Timor-Leste, Hugo Maria Fernandes Tega, Director of the National Center, and Clementino Panto Amaral, Vice Chairman of the UNESCO Timor-Leste National Commission. Timor-Leste is currently pursuing membership in ASEAN. ASEAN, established in 1967, is a Southeast Asian international organization and a partner of the Cultural Heritage Administration in heritage cooperation.
