Ruling Party: "Will Take Strong Legal Action for Election Interference"

On the 2nd, the People Power Party announced that it would take legal action against MBC for malicious reporting that inserted the People Power Party logo instead of the Democratic Party logo while covering the controversy over the 'inappropriate remarks' made by Democratic Party candidate Kim Jun-hyeok (Gyeonggi Suwon Jeong). In a statement released that day, the People Power Party said, "Today, MBC exposed the People Power Party logo instead of the Democratic Party logo through a malicious screen layout while reporting on the inappropriate remarks of Democratic Party candidate Kim Jun-hyeok on News Desk," adding, "This can only be seen as a malicious act of election interference three days before early voting." They further warned, "We will take strong legal action against such election interference by MBC."

Earlier, Kim Jun-hyeok, the Democratic Party candidate for Gyeonggi Suwon Jeong, appeared on a YouTube channel around August 2022 and stated, "Kim Hwal-ran (the first president of Ewha Womans University) played a major role in sending comfort women to the war front as a way to repay the country during the war," and added, "During the U.S. military government period, she forced Ewha Womans University students to provide sexual favors to U.S. officers." As the controversy escalated with Ewha Womans University demanding Kim’s resignation and apology, the Democratic Party recommended that Kim apologize, and he subsequently posted an apology statement.

Regarding this, MBC reported on the issue under the title "Democratic Party's Kim Jun-hyeok's Inappropriate Remarks Scandal" during the evening News Desk broadcast, displaying Kim’s photo alongside the People Power Party and Ewha Womans University logos on the anchor’s background screen. The MBC anchor, while presenting the news with the background showing Kim’s photo and the People Power Party and Ewha Womans University logos side by side, said, "Kim, a historian by training, refutes the claims by saying he spoke based on records, but criticism has been joined not only by the People Power Party but also by Ewha Womans University."
