Prosecutors Say "Very Bad Nature of Crime"
Request for Electronic Ankle Bracelet Order 20 Years Ago
The prosecution has sought a heavy sentence for a man in his 30s who entered another person's home through a gas pipe, assaulted a woman, and confined her.
According to the legal community on the 2nd, the prosecution requested a 30-year prison sentence for Mr. A, a man in his 30s who was arrested and indicted on charges including special robbery and rape under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes, at the sentencing hearing held by the 12th Criminal Division of the Incheon District Court (Presiding Judge Shim Jae-wan).
Additionally, the prosecution asked the court to order Mr. A to wear an electronic ankle bracelet for 20 years. The prosecution explained the reason for the sentence request, stating, "Mr. A's criminal nature is very bad, as he meticulously planned in advance," and "the method of the crime was harsh and brutal."
Mr. A was indicted on charges of assaulting and confining a woman in her 20s, Ms. B, at a villa in Namdong-gu, Incheon, around 2:30 a.m. on December 9 last year, and attempting to sexually assault her. Investigation revealed that the day before the crime, Mr. A wandered around a residential area, targeted a villa with gas pipes installed on the exterior wall, and searched mailboxes to find a house where a woman lived alone.
Mr. A secretly entered Ms. B's home on the second floor of the villa by climbing the gas pipe, waited for her to return home, attempted to sexually assault her, and confined her until morning. Ms. B ran to the front door and opened it after being confined for seven hours, shouted "Help me," and a neighbor reported this to the police.
