Ulleung-gun Selected for 'School Complex Facility Contest' Two Consecutive Times

Ulleung-gun, Gyeongbuk, has been selected for the second consecutive year in the 2024 School Complex Facility Project announced by the Ministry of Education, with the ‘Total Project Cost 26.6 Billion KRW Ulleung High School Da-Haengbok-Ter’ being finally chosen.

Since last year, Ulleung-gun has conducted various efforts to have Ulleung High School selected as a school complex facility, including a one-year Ministry of Education School Complex Facility Activation Agreement, the formation and operation of a School Complex Facility Promotion Council, and collecting opinions through briefings and surveys targeting parents and residents.

This project includes a daycare center that provides high-quality public childcare services to create a stable and quality childcare and educational environment for children who will lead the future generation and to overcome the low birthrate. The complex sports facility is expected to help resolve the shortage of sports spaces and demand in the region and secure quality sports infrastructure.

The ‘Ulleung Da-Haengbok-Ter’ construction project utilizing the site of Ulleung High School will be promoted in connection with the Ulleung High School Green Smart School project being carried out by the Gyeongbuk Provincial Office of Education.

The spatial composition plans to include ▲1st floor above ground: daycare center and student learning spaces ▲2nd and 3rd floors above ground: complex sports facilities (multipurpose auditorium, GX room, gym, etc.) ▲1st basement floor: parking facilities. By 2025, the project aims to complete the signing of implementation agreements with educational institutions, mid-term local finance planning, and investment reviews, and if the detailed design and construction start proceed normally from 2026, it is expected that by 2028 the facility will be transformed into a care, sports, and community space that brings happiness to the school, local community, students, and residents.

Nam Han-kwon, the county governor, said, “Following last year’s Ulleung Student Gymnasium, being selected for the school complex facility project at Ulleung High School is meaningful as it allows us to provide a better educational environment for residents and students,” and added, “We will create a care and sports environment in Ulleung that satisfies everyone from children to adults.”
