Yangcheon, Paris, Neomeundeul, Yongwangsan, Omok Park 5 Book Rest Areas Operated with Unique Monthly Themes
Diverse Programs Including Terrariums, French Movie Screenings, Various Crafts, and Forest Reading Clubs
Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced that it will operate an annual specialized cultural and artistic program where residents can enjoy diverse leisure activities throughout the four seasons at five Book Rest Areas, which are complex cultural spaces within parks.
The district has created and operated a total of five Book Rest Areas starting with Yangcheon Park in 2020, followed by Pari, Neomeundeul, Yongwangsan, and Omok Parks, allowing residents to enjoy reading, relaxation, and cultural activities surrounded by nature. These monthly themed programs provide new enjoyment every month by differentiating from traditional libraries while reflecting the unique characteristics of each park. Last year, a total of 143 Book Rest Area programs, including book therapy and terrariums, were held with about 1,400 residents participating.
This year’s annual themes for the Book Rest Areas are ▲April (Spring) ▲May (Family) ▲June (Environment) ▲July (Culture) ▲August (Summer) ▲September (Holidays) ▲October (Autumn) ▲November (Healing the Mind) ▲December (Winter), designed to reflect the vitality of the four seasons and to energize residents’ daily lives with unique programs. All themes will be applied across the five Book Rest Areas, with biweekly small-group programs for children and adults on designated days and quarterly large-scale special programs, aiming to continuously attract visitors and raise awareness of the Book Rest Areas.
