On the 1st, Daejeon Mayor Lee Jang-woo attracted attention by attending the expanded executive meeting wearing a Hanwha Eagles uniform. At the meeting, Mayor Lee used the Hanwha Eagles, who are on a record-breaking 7-game winning streak for the first time in 32 years, as a metaphor to call for administrative achievements.
Mayor Lee said, “Our city was ranked around 20th in the urban brand reputation survey, but since the end of last year, it has rapidly risen to 2nd or 3rd place. With large-scale national industrial complex designations and the three pillars of the space industry cluster, as well as national projects and issues where our city is thriving, I believe the Hanwha Eagles’ achievements carry symbolically great significance.”
He continued, “I hope that the Hanwha Eagles will lift the championship trophy together with the opening of the new baseball stadium next year. I also wish that professional teams based in Daejeon, such as Hana Citizens, will continue to succeed and give great hope to our citizens,” adding, “Our city must also unite its efforts to completely wash away past slumps and lethargy like the Hanwha Eagles and become a world-class city.”
After mentioning Daejeon Urban Corporation’s plan to increase its capital, Mayor Lee said, “Expanding the scale of our city’s economy is the biggest current issue. Economic growth does not happen by itself; it requires nurturing and attracting good companies. According to the principle that ‘our city is built by ourselves,’ the functions and roles of the Urban Corporation must be further expanded, and the development of industrial complexes must proceed rapidly. Therefore, I hope the capital increase will be completed swiftly to ensure there are no difficulties in establishing industrial sites.”
