Power Senior Health Class
Promoting Healthy Aging for Seniors at the Gyeongnam Silver Graduate School
Fostering Exercise Habits, Preventing Depression, and Sharing Health Knowledge
The National Health Insurance Service Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam Regional Headquarters is operating the "Power Senior Health Class" every Monday from April 1 to April 29 for 234 seniors enrolled in the Silver Graduate School of the Korea Senior Citizens Association Gyeongnam Federation.
On April 1, the National Health Insurance Service Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam Headquarters held a Power Senior Health Class.
The "Power Senior Health Class," conducted in collaboration with the Korea Senior Citizens Association Gyeongnam Federation, is held every Monday in April (from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m.). The program aims to help local seniors develop exercise habits in their daily lives, prevent depression, manage muscle strength in old age (to prevent falls), improve dietary habits for healthier meals, and prevent chronic diseases.
As of January 2024, the elderly population in the Gyeongnam region accounts for 20.7%, which is higher than the national average of 18.9%, indicating that the area has already entered a super-aged society. As people age, the likelihood of developing diseases increases, and recovery tends to be slower compared to younger adults.
Therefore, the health class is being promoted with the goal of encouraging seniors to recognize the importance of health management on their own, take preventive measures against diseases, and maintain a healthy daily life.
The 234 seniors participating in this "Power Senior Health Class" will share the health information they acquire with members of their respective senior community centers and serve as health messengers by practicing "Nono Care" (senior-to-senior care).
In addition to the "Healthy 100 Years Exercise Class," which has been offered nationwide for 20 years since 2005, the National Health Insurance Service is also developing and operating various health promotion programs through citizen participation-based specialized projects.
Choi Deokgeun, head of the regional headquarters, stated, "Senior health is not just an individual issue but a social issue that must be addressed together with the local community. We will continue to identify and operate projects in connection with local resources to promote the health of seniors and do our utmost to serve as the guardians of public health."
