Teenage Male Arrested for Posting Terror Threat Targeting Girls' Middle and High Schools in Gangdong-gu
The police have requested arrest warrants for two individuals who assisted a man in his 40s, a YouTuber, in secretly entering polling stations during the April 10 general election (the 22nd National Assembly election) and installing illegal cameras.
At a regular press briefing on the 1st, Woo Jong-su, head of the National Investigation Headquarters of the National Police Agency, stated, "A total of three people have been apprehended on charges of installing illegal cameras at early voting sites. One person has already been detained, and arrest warrants were just requested for the other two on charges including trespassing and violation of the Communications Privacy Protection Act."
These two are men in their 50s and 70s, respectively, and are accused of planning and accompanying the already detained YouTuber in his 40s, Mr. A, in installing illegal cameras.
The police have so far discovered evidence of illegal cameras installed at 41 early voting stations. Cameras were confirmed to be installed at 36 of these locations, and investigations are ongoing at the remaining five.
Police investigations revealed that they purchased illegal cameras in bulk from online shopping malls.
Mr. A was detained the previous day on charges of secretly entering about 40 early voting stations nationwide?including in Seoul, Busan, Incheon, Gyeongnam, Daegu, and Gyeonggi?and installing illegal cameras since early last month.
As a YouTuber, Mr. A has raised suspicions of election fraud, and it was revealed that he also installed cameras inside early voting stations during the 2022 presidential election and last year’s by-election for the mayor of Gangseo District, Seoul.
Meanwhile, as of the morning of the same day, a total of 638 election-related crimes had been reported to the police. The police have investigated 1,044 individuals, referred 22 to prosecution, and continue investigations on 892 others.
Additionally, the police arrested the author of a post threatening to carry out a terror attack at a girls’ middle and high school located in Gangdong District, Seoul, which was posted on an online community.
On the 17th of last month, a post was uploaded on the online community ‘DC Inside’ stating intentions to "kill with a pistol and knife at the girls’ high school, and with a bomb at the girls’ middle school," followed by another post on the 19th stating, "I will bring a weapon to the classroom and stab at least 10 people."
The police arrested the teenage male author of these posts on the 30th and requested an arrest warrant the following day. The pre-arrest detention hearing (warrant review) for this individual is scheduled to be held on the afternoon of the 1st.
