The Green Umbrella Gwangju Regional Headquarters donated funds to the Gwangsan-gu Family Center to support the learning of children from migrant backgrounds.
The Green Umbrella Gwangju Regional Headquarters announced on the 1st that it had delivered 40 million won in sponsorship funds for the 'Green Sprout School.' The donation ceremony was held with the attendance of Park Byeong-gyu, head of Gwangsan-gu, and Jang Eun-mi, director of the Gwangsan-gu Family Center.
The Green Sprout School is a welfare facility that supports the learning and rights improvement of children from migrant backgrounds who do not speak Korean at all. The Green Umbrella Gwangju Regional Headquarters has been running this program together with the Gwangsan-gu Family Center for three years.
This year, through activities such as basic Korean language learning, parent education, and children's rights education, the program supports the understanding of Korean society and school life for families of children from migrant backgrounds. In the future, it plans to also provide psychological and emotional support, as well as career guidance.
Kim Eun-young, head of the Green Umbrella Gwangju Regional Headquarters, said, “It is important to support children from migrant backgrounds so that they are not marginalized due to language and cultural barriers and can grow into talents of our society,” adding, “More attention and help from the local community are needed so that more children can receive support.”
