Gyeonggi Province will conduct a comprehensive inspection of large-capacity sewage treatment facilities within the province.
The Gyeonggi Provincial Water Resources Headquarters announced on the 31st that from April 15 to May 18, it will carry out a comprehensive inspection of 938 large-capacity sewage treatment facilities across the province, including private sewage systems, golf courses, and highway rest areas.
This inspection targets large-capacity sewage treatment facilities with a daily treatment capacity of 50㎥ or more, located in areas where public sewage systems have not been established.
The Water Resources Headquarters will focus on inspecting abnormal operations such as discharging domestic wastewater directly into public water bodies without passing through treatment facilities, and turning off the power to sewage treatment facilities.
For facilities found in violation, the Water Resources Headquarters will take administrative actions such as filing complaints, imposing fines, and issuing improvement orders according to the Sewerage Act. Additionally, for sewage treatment facilities within the Paldang Watershed Management Area, facility improvements and technical support consulting will also be provided.
Cho Jihyung, Director of Water Quality Management at the Water Resources Headquarters, stated, "If untreated wastewater flows into rivers, it can cause issues directly affecting residents' health, such as algal blooms. Through this inspection, we will improve aging facilities and strictly address acts such as unauthorized discharge of polluted water."
