The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education will operate regional Teacher Rights Protection Committees under each education support office to respond to infringements on educational activities, secure the expertise of the Teacher Rights Protection Committee deliberations, and reduce school administrative tasks.
The Office announced on the 31st that, following the enforcement in March this year of the revised "Special Act on the Improvement of Teachers' Status and Protection of Educational Activities" amended last September, the existing school-level Teacher Rights Protection Committees will be abolished and transferred to regional Teacher Rights Protection Committees.
According to the law, the regional Teacher Rights Protection Committees deliberate on matters including ▲establishing standards for infringement on educational activities and formulating preventive measures ▲taking actions against students who infringe on educational activities ▲taking actions against guardians who infringe on educational activities ▲mediating disputes related to teachers' educational activities ▲and other matters deemed necessary for deliberation by the superintendent of education.
Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education is conducting training sessions to strengthen the capabilities of the Regional Teachers' Rights Protection Committee.
The Office has previously established regional Teacher Rights Protection Committees in 25 education support offices.
Additionally, to strengthen the capabilities of the regional Teacher Rights Protection Committees, the Office conducted a capacity-building workshop for staff in charge on the 19th, followed by training sessions on the 27th for deliberation committee members from the southern and northern regions.
Furthermore, on April 8, a second practical training session for deliberation committee members, including subcommittee chairs and teacher members of the regional Teacher Rights Protection Committees, will be held.
The Office will also distribute the "Gyeonggi-style Guide to Protecting Educational Activities" to enhance the fairness of the regional Teacher Rights Protection Committees.
Lee Ji-myeong, Director of the Life and Character Education Division at the Office, stated, "By operating the regional Teacher Rights Protection Committees, we will reduce administrative tasks at school sites," adding, "We expect that fair disciplinary actions will be taken against infringements on educational activities through the expert deliberations of the regional Teacher Rights Protection Committees."
