The 22nd General Election Voter Count is 44,251,919... Half Are Aged 50 and Over

Announcement of the Number of Voters for the 22nd National Assembly Election
Increased by 257,672 Compared to the Previous General Election
Women Outnumber Men by 414,549

The total number of eligible voters for this National Assembly election has been counted as 44,251,919. This is an increase of 257,672 compared to the previous election, with more women than men, and voters aged 50 to 60 and above accounting for more than half of the total.


On the 31st, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced that the total number of eligible voters for the 22nd National Assembly election is 44,251,919, of which 44,245,552 voters participate in both the district and proportional representation elections, and 6,367 voters participate only in the proportional representation election. Voters who participate only in the proportional representation election include overseas Koreans without resident registration or those who have not passed three months since registration.

The number of eligible voters for this National Assembly election increased by 257,672 from 43,994,247 in the 21st National Assembly election. By gender, there are 21,918,685 men (49.53%) and 22,333,234 women (50.47%), showing that female voters outnumber male voters by 414,549.


By age group, there are 14,110,053 voters aged 60 and above (31.89%), 8,711,608 in their 50s (19.69%), 7,857,539 in their 40s (17.76%), 6,559,220 in their 30s (14.82%), 6,118,407 in their 20s (13.82%), and 895,092 teenagers (ages 18-19) (2.02%). Voters aged 50 to 60 and above account for 51% of the total, meaning one in every two voters belongs to this age group.


By region, Gyeonggi-do has the largest number of voters at 11,591,379 (26.19%), followed by Seoul Special City with 8,300,840 (18.76%), and Busan Metropolitan City with 2,882,847 (6.51%). Sejong Special Self-Governing City has the smallest number with 301,262 (0.68%).


Additionally, the by-elections and supplementary elections held simultaneously with the 22nd National Assembly election cover a total of 45 constituencies (2 for basic local government heads, 17 for metropolitan council members, and 26 for basic council members). The number of eligible voters for basic local government head elections is 287,088, for metropolitan council member elections is 846,643, and for basic council member elections is 1,123,151. Eligible voters for this election can check their voter registration number and polling station location through the city, county, and district office websites or via notices sent by mail.
