Early End to Yoon Seok-yeol's Dictatorial Regime + Promotion of Gwangju-Jeonnam Energy Megacity
Min Hyung-bae, the Democratic Party candidate for Gwangsan-gu (Eul), Gwangju Metropolitan City, announced his second series of pledges. This time, the combined central and regional 1+1 pledges are ‘Early End to the Yoon Seok-yeol Dictatorship Regime’ + ‘Promotion of Gwangju-Jeonnam Energy Megacity’.
The central pledge revealed by candidate Min Hyung-bae mainly involves a constitutional amendment to introduce a four-year single-term presidential system, including shortening President Yoon Seok-yeol’s term.
Additionally, he promised ▲to limit the president’s veto power abuse that undermines the National Assembly’s legislative authority ▲to prevent the excessive issuance of executive orders by the administration. The plan is to properly establish the separation of powers by blocking unconstitutional and illegal acts by the executive branch that infringe on the legislature’s authority.
Representative Min stated, “The four-year single-term presidency was proposed as a one-point constitutional amendment by former President Roh Moo-hyun in January 2007 but was aborted, and later President Moon Jae-in submitted an actual amendment proposal in March 2018, which was automatically discarded due to opposition from the opposition party. Since the Yoon Seok-yeol administration is regressing all areas including politics, economy, democracy, and peace, worsening the hardships of people’s livelihoods, we will ensure this is enacted in the 22nd National Assembly to shorten President Yoon Seok-yeol’s term.”
The regional pledge to promote the Gwangju-Jeonnam Energy Megacity includes ▲establishing a special union of local governments for the energy megacity and constructing an energy highway ▲creating and legislating support for green jobs to ensure no citizens lose jobs during the transition to a carbon-neutral economy ▲pursuing the designation of Gwangju as a specialized distributed energy area following the enforcement of the Special Act on Distributed Energy Activation ▲attracting energy-specialized research institutions and companies.
Representative Min emphasized, “Gwangju and Jeonnam, with a solid foundation in renewable energy, are places where energy public enterprises and research institutions are concentrated. Since renewable energy is a core of global competitiveness, revitalizing this sector will benefit both the Gwangju-Jeonnam region and the national economy.”
He added, “I will protect everyone so that the Earth does not exceed ecological limits and citizens do not fall outside the social safety net,” and “I will do my best to create a Gwangsan-gu without climate crises or job crises.”
