Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong visited the funeral hall set up at Sinchon Severance Hospital in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, on the 30th to pay his respects to Honorary Chairman Cho Seok-rae.
Chairman Lee arrived at the funeral hall at 2:03 p.m. that day and stayed for about 30 minutes, consoling the bereaved family, including Cho Hyun-joon, Chairman of Hyosung Group. He paid his respects together with his mother, Hong Ra-hee, former director of the Samsung Museum of Art Leeum.

Chairman Lee and Chairman Cho Hyun-joon are the same age. They attended Gyeonggi Elementary School and Keio University Graduate School together. Cho Hyun-sang, Vice Chairman and younger brother of Chairman Cho, is three years junior to them at Gyeonggi Elementary School.
The Samsung and Hyosung families have had a deep connection since the founders’ era. The late Samsung founder Lee Byung-chul and the late Hyosung founder Cho Hong-je jointly invested to establish Samsung C&T Corporation, a trading company.
However, Chairman Lee did not make any particular remarks when asked by reporters about his memories with Honorary Chairman Cho Seok-rae that day.
Honorary Chairman Cho passed away at the age of 89 at Seoul National University Hospital in Jongno-gu, Seoul, at 6:38 p.m. on the 29th. The funeral will be held over five days, with the funeral procession scheduled for the 2nd of next month.
