73 People Travel to Gyeongju After Over 50 Years
The Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Kang Eun-hee) organized a "Gyeongju Graduation Trip" on the 29th to allow late learners at Daegu Naeil School to experience cultural heritage sites featured in textbooks and create memories with their classmates.
Seventy-three adult literacy learners in the middle school program participating in this graduation trip visited Bulguksa Temple, which holds significant historical and cultural value, where they listened to explanations from a professional guide and toured Cheongungyo Bridge, Baekungyo Bridge, and Dabotap Pagoda, gaining an easy-to-understand insight into Silla culture.
Daegu Naeil School late-blooming middle school students are taking a commemorative photo during their graduation trip in Gyeongju.
They then moved to the Gyerim Historic District, where they toured Cheomseongdae Observatory, Gyerim, and Wolseong with their classmates, directly observing Korea’s unique cultural heritage learned during class and experiencing the beauty of Gyeongju in spring.
"Daegu Naeil School" is a literacy education program recognized for elementary and middle school academic levels, directly operated by the Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education for adults who missed earlier learning opportunities. There are currently 208 late learners enrolled, including 50 in the elementary course (1 year) and 158 in the middle school course (2 years).
Seventy-three third-year middle school learners have completed the elementary literacy education course at Daegu Naeil School and are in their second year of the middle school literacy education course, with graduation scheduled for September.
The late learners, with an average age of 68, feel a deep sense of emotion on this belated graduation trip. One learner participating in the trip said, "Classes in the classroom are good, but I am happy to be able to go on a graduation trip with teachers and friends, returning to my childhood."
Kang Eun-hee, Superintendent of Daegu Education, stated, "We will continue to support the operation of diverse educational programs that add fun and enjoyment to the school life of adult learners at Daegu Naeil School."
