Preparing for North Korean Missile Threats
On the 29th, Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam held the '2024 1st Quarter Changwon Special City Integrated Defense Council' at the City Hall Citizen Hall, presided over by Hong Nam-pyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, with about 40 participants including members of the integrated defense council from the military, police, fire department, and related officials.
The meeting proceeded with the National Intelligence Service Gyeongnam Branch's outlook on North Korea's threats to South Korea, a report on the 2024 integrated defense operation plan by Changwon City's Safety General Officer and the 1st Battalion of the 5870th Unit, followed by a thematic discussion on integrated defense by each agency.
Changwon Special City held the "2024 1st Quarter Changwon Special City Integrated Defense Council" on the 29th at the City Hall Citizen Hall, chaired by Mayor Hong Nam-pyo.
At this meeting, a thematic discussion on integrated defense was held under the topic "Citizen Protection Measures Against North Korean Missile Threats in the Changwon Area."
In preparation for missile provocations such as North Korea's ballistic missile launches that began early this year, possible scenarios were assumed, and the roles of each agency and rapid cooperation measures were discussed.
Mayor Hong stated, "North Korea has already launched ballistic missiles twice this year, which are prohibited under UN Security Council resolutions, and military tensions surrounding the Korean Peninsula are escalating year by year," adding, "Through continuous work consultations among related agencies based on the matters discussed in this meeting, please do your best to concretize and specialize these measures to ensure citizens' safety through swift initial responses in emergencies."
