The Korean-style ARPA-H is an organization modeled after the United States' Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H). ARPA-H, established in 2022 under the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH), promotes an "innovative healthcare research system." It is based on the research model of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and focuses on strengthening NIH's research innovation and rapid support for industrialization.
For the Korean-style ARPA-H project, the Health Industry Development Institute established a dedicated task force on the 1st of this month and appointed Professor Seon-gyeong from Kyung Hee University College of Medicine as the inaugural head of the task force. They are also recruiting personnel such as project managers (PMs).
Accordingly, the Health Industry Development Institute is holding a nationwide contest to develop brand naming and image (BI) that anyone can easily call and remember, reflecting the project's vision of "a bold challenge to improve the health of all citizens." To enhance participation and improve the quality of submissions in each field, the naming and BI contests will be held sequentially. The first prize for the brand naming contest is 1.5 million KRW, and the first prize for the BI contest is 4 million KRW, with a total prize of 8 million KRW.
The contest will be conducted through online submissions. Detailed information and schedules can be found on the Loud Sourcing platform and the Korea Health Industry Development Institute website. Judging will be conducted by a panel including external experts. To prevent plagiarism and unauthorized use, there will be a public posting and verification period for the final award candidates.
Task Force Head Seon-gyeong said, "This contest will be an opportunity for the national research and development projects, which have so far been limited to expert groups, to come one step closer to the public." He added, "We ask that you actively propose naming and images with high symbolism, popularity, and usability so that consensus can be formed and the project can become more approachable through works proposed and participated in by the public."
