Volvo Cars' compact electric sports utility vehicle (SUV) EX30 was selected as the '2024 World Urban Car' at the World Car Awards held in New York, USA, on the 27th (local time).
Marking its 20th anniversary this year, the World Car Awards is regarded as the most prestigious award, with a jury composed of 100 automotive journalists from 32 countries worldwide who select the winners through a secret vote each year. This year, awards were presented across six categories for a total of 38 car models from around the world.
The Volvo EX30 won the '2024 World Urban Car' award, beating strong contenders. Additionally, among the 38 candidates, the EX30 was selected as one of the world's top three cars alongside the Kia EV9 and BYD Seal.
Jim Rowan, CEO of Volvo Cars, said, "In the transition to a fully electric vehicle era, the EX30 will significantly contribute to Volvo Cars' growth this year and beyond."
Volvo's electric SUV EX30 was first unveiled last summer. The EX30 is a pure electric SUV built on an electric vehicle-dedicated platform. It was developed with a focus on minimizing carbon emissions throughout the entire lifecycle of the vehicle.
The EX30 is available in three powertrain options: single motor, single motor extended, and twin motor performance. It offers a maximum driving range of 476 km (WLTP standard), and its battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in just 25 minutes via ultra-fast charging.
