NH Investment & Securities announced on the 29th that it has become the first company in the securities industry to obtain the global personal information protection certification, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Cross-Border Privacy Rules (APEC CBPR).
APEC CBPR is a global certification system based on the personal information protection principles of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). It evaluates the overall level of personal information protection of companies and was jointly developed by APEC member countries to support the free and secure transfer of personal information among APEC member countries.
Through obtaining this certification, NH Investment & Securities has enhanced its external credibility as an excellent personal information protection company not only in the Asia-Pacific region but also at the global level. In particular, when entering countries that recognize the Personal Information Protection Act as having an equivalent level of protection system or partnering with companies located in those countries, it can guarantee safe and efficient personal information management. So far, nine countries including Korea, the United States, Japan, and Singapore participate in APEC CBPR, and about 60 global leading companies such as Apple, IBM, and HP have obtained APEC CBPR certification. In Korea, the Personal Information Protection Commission and the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) officially started operating the system in May 2022, and 10 domestic companies have received the certification to date. The certification evaluation is comprehensively conducted based on APEC's nine privacy principles and 50 certification criteria items across six areas: ▲establishment of personal information management system ▲collection of personal information ▲use, consignment, and provision of personal information ▲rights of data subjects ▲integrity ▲protection measures.
NH Investment & Securities plans to continue various efforts to invest in personal information protection and enhance information security capabilities. Kim Gyu-jin, Head of the Information Security Division (Chief Privacy Officer), said, “We are pleased to have our personal information protection capabilities recognized through obtaining the APEC CBPR certification amid the growing importance of personal information protection,” and added, “NH Investment & Securities will continue to invest and make efforts to establish a foundation where customers can use services with peace of mind.”
