Kwon Young-se, the People Power Party candidate for Yongsan District, Seoul, appeared on CBS's 'Kim Hyun-jung's News Show' on the 29th and addressed the controversy over harsh remarks related to Han Dong-hoon, the emergency response committee chairman of the People Power Party. He said, "There is an aspect of heated expression, but it is not severe harsh language," adding, "He is originally someone who attacks the opposition sharply without using vulgar language. He is not comparable to Representative Lee Jae-myung. Representative Lee has some issues in his daily remarks."
He continued, "The problematic remarks by Chairman Han have occurred about once, but Representative Lee has made countless controversial statements," and pointed out, "The comment that 'just saying xie xie to China is enough' is almost on par with or even worse than former President Moon Jae-in's degrading remarks about us as big and small peaks, which is an unacceptable statement." Earlier, on the 22nd, Representative Lee sparked controversy by saying during a campaign in Dangjin, Chungnam, "Why bother with China? Just say xie xie."
Meanwhile, Candidate Kwon expressed opposition to the opposition party's proposal to relocate the presidential office to Sejong City. He explained, "Some in the opposition party suggest moving even the presidential office, but didn't the Constitutional Court rule, referring to customary constitution, that relocating the capital is not allowed?" He added, "Moving the presidential office would amount to relocating the capital, which violates the so-called customary constitution."
According to the recently passed amendments to the National Assembly Act and rules, a branch of the National Assembly will be established in Sejong City, while in Seoul, only the plenary session hall, the Speaker's office, and six standing committees?Operations, Legislation and Judiciary, National Defense, Foreign Affairs and Unification, Gender Equality and Family, and Intelligence?will remain. Candidate Kwon said, "We need to consider the detailed specifics. If there are inconveniences, the parts moving to Sejong should be reconsidered."
