Gyeonggi Province will conduct joint crackdowns on illegal fishing from April 15 to June 2 in 13 cities and counties, including Hwaseong, Ansan, and Paju, to coincide with the spring spawning season.
In coastal waters, three fishery patrol vessels will be deployed to focus on cracking down on unauthorized and unlicensed illegal fishing, illegal capture of Japanese eel, gear and hull modifications, and violations of the Fisheries Vessel Act. Inspections will be conducted in major rivers and lakes to check for violations such as prohibited capture and harvesting periods, banned sizes, and restrictions on fry fishing activities.
Additionally, inspections will be carried out at major ports, fishing harbors, and fish markets to prevent the sale of illegally caught fish, along with promotional activities to prevent illegal fishing by non-fishery workers.
Gyeonggi Province will take judicial and administrative actions against illegal fishing activities detected during this crackdown in accordance with relevant laws and regulations.
Kim Bong-hyun, Director of the Marine Fisheries Division of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "We expect illegal fishing to become more rampant during the spring spawning season. We will do our best to establish order in fisheries through intensive crackdowns."
Meanwhile, last year, Gyeonggi Province detected 55 cases of illegal fishing, including unauthorized operations, through intensive crackdowns during the spawning, closed, and growth periods.
