The Gugok-Sundam Longevity Belt Administrative Council includes major longevity regions such as Gurye, Gokseong, Sunchang, and Damyang counties. Since establishing its charter in 2003, the council has rotated the chairmanship among the counties and selected the health and longevity of the elderly as a joint task, promoting related projects.

This year, Damyang-gun, serving as the chair county, is uniquely adapting the main event, the Gugok-Sundam 100-Year Celebration, focusing on the 'dream' journey in life, highlighting the 'passion' for life, the 'challenge' toward dreams, and the stories of elderly people realizing these dreams through books and videos.

In addition, substantial projects are being promoted, including the 1st Longevity Senior Park Golf and Gateball Tournament to promote healthy lives and friendship among the elderly, the ‘Healing Know-how Cultural Experience Event’ visiting Damyang’s unique cultural and artistic heritage sites, and the ‘Smart Village Distribution and Expansion Contest’ jointly planned by the four counties.

Lee Byung-no, Mayor of Damyang-gun, said, “2024 will be a period of growth where the four counties of Gurye, Gokseong, Sunchang, and Damyang will stretch out like bamboo shoots, fostering mutual coexistence, harmony, and friendship. We will further develop the Longevity Belt Administrative Council through mutual cooperation among the four counties this year as well.”

Meanwhile, the 13th Gugok-Sundam 100-Year Celebration event this year is scheduled to be held on May 14 at the Chuseongchang Memorial Hall area in Juknokwon.
