Hyundai Motor Medical Robots Assist in Rehabilitation of Injured Soldiers

Hyundai Motor Group announced on the 28th that it has signed an agreement with the Armed Forces Medical Command to support the rehabilitation of injured soldiers. Through this agreement, Hyundai Motor Group will provide two walking rehabilitation robots, XBL MEX, to the rehabilitation treatment room at the Armed Forces Capital Hospital.


This robot is a medical wearable robot independently developed by Hyundai Motor Robotics Lab. It is a product that assists walking for patients with lower body paralysis or disabilities. It supports five movements: walking, standing, sitting, climbing up and down stairs, and turning left and right, and the length of each part of the robot can be adjusted according to the wearer’s physical condition. It is easy to wear even while seated.

The company explained that it will be used for lower limb muscle reconstruction and joint movement recovery for soldier patients undergoing rehabilitation treatment. Kim Kyung-eun, head of the rehabilitation medicine department at the Armed Forces Capital Hospital, said, "Being able to use advanced equipment will greatly help the rehabilitation of our soldiers in the future."


Hyundai Motor Group also decided to provide a certain amount of living expenses during the caregiving period to families of injured soldiers who suffered severe trauma while on duty, in cooperation with the Korea Disabled Foundation and the Community Chest of Korea. At the signing ceremony, Kim Ik-tae, head of Kia’s Special Business Division, said, "Supporting heroes who work hard for society and public interest is one of our company’s new directions for social contribution."
