Commemoration Ceremony with Flower Offering in Front of the Memorial Plaque on March 28, the Day Mayor Kim Was Designated as a War Casualty
Banners Displayed for 10 Days from the 27th to Honor the Meaning of Sacrifice
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin District, paid tribute on the 28th by laying flowers at the memorial plaque of the late Dr. Shin Hyung-soo, who sacrificed his life while blocking a bus hijacker, remembering his noble spirit.
This day marks the designation of Shin Hyung-soo as a public service martyr.
At the time of the incident, Shin Hyung-soo, a university student and resident of Junggok 2-dong, tragically lost his life on January 10, 1998, while chasing and stopping a person who had stolen and was fleeing with a bus.
In response, the district designated him as a public service martyr and erected a memorial plaque at 48 Jayang-ro to honor his sacrifice.
Additionally, from the 27th, banners commemorating Shin Hyung-soo’s righteous actions and sacrifice will be displayed for 10 days.
Mayor Kim Kyung-ho stated, “We will not forget the spirit of the late who sacrificed for social justice and will hold him as a model for the citizens of Gwangjin District.”
Gwangjin District has designated a total of six public service martyrs, and through the “Seoul Metropolitan Government Gwangjin District Ordinance on the Honor and Support for Public Service Martyrs,” it respects the noble spirit of self-sacrifice shown by these martyrs and provides support to their bereaved families or the martyrs themselves beyond national honors.
