The Gyeongnam Election Commission announced on the 28th that it reported to the prosecution the day before Mr. A, an acquaintance of a local councilor candidate in the by-election and re-election, who made donations to voters in the electoral district for the candidate.

According to the Gyeongnam Election Commission, Mr. A is suspected of holding a dinner gathering on the 20th and providing food worth about 160,000 KRW to about 10 voters in the electoral district, thereby engaging in preliminary election campaigning and making donations for the candidate.

The Public Official Election Act stipulates that no one shall make or be allowed to make donations for an election candidate or a person intending to become a candidate, and restricts election campaigning by other means such as assemblies before the official election campaign period.

The Gyeongnam Election Commission stated, "As the official election campaign begins today, while election campaign freedom will be allowed to the maximum extent, major election crimes that undermine election fairness, such as bribery or donation acts, will be strictly dealt with."
