Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power and 5 Local Governments
Join Hands for Efficient Pumped Storage Power Plant Construction
Hapcheon County in Gyeongnam Province signed a business agreement on the 21st with Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power and five local governments (Yeongdong County, Hongcheon County, Pocheon City, Hapcheon County, Yeongyang County) promoting the construction of pumped-storage power plants, and held a workshop at the Daejeon ICC Hotel on the 27th.
Through this agreement, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power agreed to systematically and efficiently exchange information on the pumped-storage power plant construction projects being promoted under the 9th Basic Plan for Electricity Supply and Demand in Yeongdong County, Hongcheon County, and Pocheon City, and under the 10th Basic Plan for Electricity Supply and Demand in Hapcheon County and Yeongyang County, while cooperating for balanced regional development.
These organizations agreed to cooperate and support each other in the construction of pumped-storage power plants by jointly responding to the crisis of local extinction and revitalization, establishing tourism resource plans, promoting win-win cooperation projects, supporting permits and consultations, and environmentally friendly joint use of forest resources.
County Governor Kim Yoon-cheol expressed gratitude to Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power for organizing this event to efficiently promote the eco-friendly pumped-storage power plant construction project, stating, “Through this agreement, all organizations will cooperate for mutual growth, participate in the government’s energy policy, and together with the residents, build a hopeful future for Hapcheon.”
Meanwhile, in December last year, according to the 10th Basic Plan for Electricity Supply and Demand announced by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Dumusan Pumped-Storage Power Plant was selected as the priority project.
Accordingly, the construction project for the pumped-storage power plant is scheduled to begin with a preliminary feasibility study for public institutions in May 2024, followed by power generation business permits and approval of the power development implementation plan, with construction starting in the first half of 2027 and aiming for completion in December 2034.
