National Leading Forest Management Complex Evaluation 'Very Excellent'
Goseong-gun, Gyeongnam Province announced on the 28th that it was selected as a "Very Excellent" grade in the "2023 Private Forest Leading Forest Management Complex Excellent Institution Evaluation" hosted by the Korea Forest Service.
This achievement is even more meaningful as it was accomplished just four years after the Leading Forest Management Complex project was first implemented in 2020.
The main reason for receiving such a high grade in the Korea Forest Service evaluation was the distinguished implementation of differentiated policies, such as returning profits from unused forest biomass to the local community.
The "Leading Forest Management Complex" project aims to revitalize private forest management by scaling and collectivizing management areas to overcome the small scale of private forests and the long-term nature of forestry, enabling focused investment.
Since 2020, the county has been implementing the "Galmo Peak Leading Forest Management Complex Development Project" over 1,073 hectares in Idang-ri and Galcheon-ri, Goseong-eup, with a total project budget of 7.515 billion KRW planned from 2020 to 2029.
County Governor Lee Sang-geun said, "Our county has achieved the remarkable feat of being evaluated as a leading forest management complex nationwide just four years after starting the project in 2020," adding, "Based on this achievement, we will devote ourselves even more to the Leading Forest Management Complex project to revitalize the forest circular economy (logging-reforestation-forest tending) and economic forestry (forest products, etc.), striving to boost the local economy and increase forest owners' income."
