Ulsan City "Expecting Balanced Regional Development and Economic Revitalization"
Wooshin Leisure 550 Billion Won Investment, Fully Private Capital Development
The ‘Ulsan Alps Tourist Complex,’ a stay-type leisure and recreation facility fully funded by private capital, has been designated, and its development will be accelerated.
On the 28th, Ulsan City announced that it has officially designated the ‘Ulsan Alps Tourist Complex,’ proposed by Wooshin Leisure Co., Ltd., as a tourist complex under Article 52 of the Tourism Promotion Act. The complex is located in the Joil-ri area of Samdong-myeon, Ulju-gun.
A tourist complex refers to a tourism hub area where various tourist facilities are comprehensively developed to provide diverse tourism and recreation options for visitors. As of June 2023, 49 such complexes have been designated nationwide.
The Ulsan Alps Tourist Complex aims to develop an eco-concept leisure-type integrated resort centered around gardens.
On a 1.5 million square meter site in Joil-ri, Samdong-myeon, with a project cost of 557.8 billion KRW, plans include constructing 700 lodging rooms, recreational and cultural facilities such as an arboretum and campground, as well as various tourist facilities like the Eonyang Bulgogi Town that coexists with local residents, a spa, water park, and golf course.
The project is scheduled for completion in 2027, with Wooshin Leisure acting as the project operator and the entire development being driven by private capital.
With large-scale tourism facilities equipped with diverse leisure, sports, and entertainment functions in the western region of Ulsan, it is expected to promote balanced regional development and activate stay-type tourism linked to mountain tourism in the Yeongnam Alps area.
Kim Doo-gyeom, Mayor of Ulsan, stated, “The project site has excellent metropolitan transportation accessibility, which is expected to increase visits from tourists from Miryang, Yangsan, Gyeongju, and other areas. It will also significantly contribute to revitalizing the local economy by reducing the outflow of tourism consumption by citizens.” He added, “We will communicate with private developers to establish distinctive and differentiated facility plans.”
