The Ministry of Science and ICT announced that Ryu Gwang-jun, Director of the Science and Technology Innovation Headquarters, gathered opinions on the discovery and selection directions of the 'Global R&D Flagship Project' and checked the development status of quantum technology on the 28th at the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS) with experts from industry, academia, and research institutes in major technology fields.
This meeting was organized to review global research trends in key technology fields such as quantum, hydrogen, and next-generation nuclear power, and to discuss the strategic promotion direction of the ‘Global R&D Flagship Project,’ systematic management and support plans, and the discovery and selection directions of projects for focused national investment amid the current international situation.
Director Ryu stated, “As the R&D capabilities of our researchers and research institutions improve and overseas parties show great interest in cooperation with Korea, this is an opportunity to expand Korea’s global R&D.” He added, “We will systematically support the establishment of a foundation for global R&D activation to achieve meaningful outcomes such as early acquisition of key technologies, securing new technologies, and strategic technological cooperation.”
Before the meeting, Director Ryu visited KRISS’s quantum computing and ultra-low temperature quantum atom research facilities to check the development status of quantum technology and emphasized the importance of activating international cooperation using the capabilities in quantum technology, a future game-changing technology.
