[2024 Asset Disclosure] Lee Chang-yong, BOK Governor's Assets 4.5 Billion KRW, Jang Yong-seong 7.8 Billion KRW, Seo Young-gyeong 6.9 Billion KRW

Most members of the Monetary Policy Committee of the Bank of Korea were found to be wealthy individuals with substantial assets.


According to the '2024 High-ranking Public Officials' Asset Changes' data published in the official gazette on the 28th by the Government Public Officials Ethics Committee, Lee Chang-yong, Governor of the Bank of Korea, reported assets totaling 4,476.56 million KRW. This is about 270 million KRW less than a year ago (4,748.38 million KRW).


The appraised value of forest land in Goa-eup, Gumi-si, Gyeongbuk, under Governor Lee's name decreased by about 90 million KRW to 1,096.6 million KRW. The leasehold appraisal value of a row house in Itaewon-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul (land 727.0㎡, building 174.20㎡) under his name remained unchanged at 950 million KRW, but the appraisal value of an apartment in Yeoksam-raemian, Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, under his spouse's name dropped by 276 million KRW from 1,573 million KRW to 1,297 million KRW.


Governor Lee also reported deposits totaling 994.57 million KRW under his name (666.25 million KRW), his spouse's (242.47 million KRW), and eldest son's (85.89 million KRW). He explained that the increase in total deposits compared to a year ago (925.50 million KRW) was due to salary and interest income.


Bank of Korea Deputy Governor Yoo Sang-dae's assets amounted to 2,133.49 million KRW, an increase of 92.23 million KRW over the year. Deputy Governor Yoo stated that his assets increased due to savings from earned income and retirement pay from his previous job at the Korea Housing Finance Corporation.


Among the Monetary Policy Committee members, including the Governor and Deputy Governor, the wealthiest was member Jang Yong-seong, who reported assets of 7,865.55 million KRW. Member Jang, who took office in April last year, saw his assets increase by 975.50 million KRW compared to the previous year.


He and his spouse jointly owned an apartment with a total appraised value of approximately 2,097.7 million KRW. Deposits under his name (3,066.45 million KRW) and his spouse's (313.78 million KRW) totaled 3,380.23 million KRW, and the couple also held stocks worth 2,684.92 billion KRW, including 114 shares of Tesla.


Member Seo Young-kyung, who is set to retire next month, reported assets of 6,983.70 million KRW, which is 281.76 million KRW more than at the time of last year's report. The appraisal value of the Woosung 4 apartment (157.74㎡) in Dogok-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, jointly owned by Member Seo and his spouse, was 2,173 million KRW, and deposits under his name (1,469.25 million KRW) and his spouse's (2,235.14 million KRW) totaled 3,704.39 million KRW.


Similarly, member Cho Yoon-je, a former ambassador to the United States whose term also ends next month, saw his assets increase by 79 million KRW to 6,433.62 million KRW. Member Cho and his spouse reported land assets worth 1,210.91 million KRW, including a plot in Pyeongchang-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul (367㎡, 930.35 million KRW), and real estate assets including a detached house in Bukahyeon-dong, Seoul (land 701㎡, building 326.2㎡) valued at 2,420 million KRW.


Member Shin Sung-hwan's assets (4,805.73 million KRW) also increased by about 160 million KRW over the year. He reported apartments worth 3,089.13 million KRW, including his own Ramian Chellitus apartment in Ichon-dong, Seoul (124.02㎡) and a share (39.18㎡) of the LG Hangang Ja-i apartment in Ichon-dong (168.53㎡) newly inherited by his spouse.
