The causes of wildfires are 32.8% due to arson by mountain visitors, followed by burning of rice paddies and fields at 12.1%, garbage burning at 12.5%, and cigarette-related fires at 5.8%.

Jeonnam Fire Headquarters will have about 10,000 participants including firefighters, volunteer firefighters, and related organizations conducting a wildfire prevention campaign at 22 fire stations, major traditional markets, stations, terminals, and other densely populated places.

Along with this, they will promote wildfire prevention rules such as ▲prohibition of burning rice paddies, fields, and various types of garbage ▲refraining from smoking or handling fire sources ▲prohibition of entry into restricted mountain areas or closed hiking trails, and will carry out guidance and enforcement.

Chief Hong Young-geun said, “A small spark can lead to a large fire,” and added, “We ask for special attention and care in wildfire prevention to protect not only the forests but also the lives and property of the residents.”
