TJ Media is emerging as a 'holy ground' for enthusiasts who sing Japanese animation OSTs. Japanese animation, which had once slowed down, is now experiencing a boom, with more consumers enjoying characters and lines as 'memes.'
TJ Media announced on the 27th that the number of performances of Japanese songs increased by 700,000 times (about 33%) compared to the same month last year. TJ Media supports the largest number of animation OSTs among domestic karaoke equipment companies.
Animation OSTs such as ‘My Favorite Child’, ‘Chainsaw Man’, and ‘Slam Dunk’ ranked high in terms of the number of performances. It is also explained that visits have increased as people recall memories when singers who performed the OSTs hold concerts in Korea or when animations like Slam Dunk are released as movies.
TJ Karaoke supports songs from various eras that allow people to immerse themselves in nostalgia. Among the Slam Dunk OSTs that were popular last year, the season 2 opening song ‘Zettai ni Daremo’ by ZYYG, released in 1995, and the season 3 ending song ‘Kagayaku Shunkan ni Tsukamaete’ by MANISH can be sung at TJ Karaoke.
A company official said, "There are about 2,000 Japanese animation OSTs registered at TJ Karaoke," adding, "Since many good animations will be aired this year as well, we plan to release fast and diverse songs, hoping that the lingering emotions of masterpieces can be enjoyed even in karaoke."
The OST consumption trend can also be found in the performance industry and music charts. The ‘Japanimation OST Concert’ received positive responses despite relatively high prices and will be held again this year at Lotte Concert Hall.
On the Melon chart, J-pop had not entered the overseas comprehensive top 100 chart for several years, but last year, four songs entered the chart. Songs such as YOASOBI’s ‘Idol’, Kenshi Yonezu’s ‘KICK BACK’, and RADWIMPS’ ‘Suzume’ are animation OSTs.
