Dong-A University Wrestling Team Achieves 4 Consecutive Wins at President's National Wrestling Championship

Dong-A University (President Lee Hae-woo) announced that its wrestling team recently won the overall championship at the 42nd Chairman's National Wrestling Tournament held at the Cheorwon Indoor Gymnasium in Cheorwon-gun, Gangwon-do, marking their fourth consecutive year at the top.

Player Yang Jun-wi (4th year, Department of Physical Education) received the Most Valuable Player award, and Coach Kim Ki-jung was honored with the Coach of the Year award.


Dong-A University demonstrated strong performance by sweeping 7 gold medals in the individual events at this tournament. They also secured 2 bronze medals.


The gold medalists are 4th-year students Yang Jun-wi (F61kg), Choi Won (F65kg), Cha Seo-hyun (F97kg); 3rd-year student Chae Seung-hoon (F92kg); and 1st-year students Lim Ji-hong (F57kg), Kim Tae-bin (F79kg), and Park Ji-han (F86kg).


3rd-year student Son Jin-gyu (F65kg) and 2nd-year student Lee Min-jun (F92kg) earned bronze medals.


Coach Kim Ki-jung said, “It is an unparalleled honor to achieve the best results in my coaching career at the first tournament of this year. I am truly grateful to the players who worked hard and followed well, and I will strive even more to continue achieving good results in future competitions.”


Founded in 1963, the Dong-A University wrestling team is a prestigious program that has produced notable athletes such as Yang Jeong-mo, the gold medalist at the 1976 Montreal Olympics and South Korea’s first Olympic gold medalist; Son Gap-do, bronze medalist at the 1984 LA Olympics; and Kim Young-gu and Lee Sam-seong, gold medalists at the 1986 Asian Games.
