"Can Enter Narrow Spaces for Searching Under Cars"
The first Corgi breed police dog has been appointed in China.
On the 27th, the Chinese state-run English newspaper China Daily reported that the police dog 'Fuzai' (福仔) was introduced at the Police Camp Open Day event recently held in Weifang, Shandong Province. Fuzai, a male preliminary police dog, is 6 months old. After undergoing additional training for a certain period, he is expected to take on official duties.
Liu Yanglin, the person in charge of the police dog base at the Public Security Bureau in Changle County, Weifang City, said, "Fuzai achieved good results in training processes such as obedience, explosive detection, and scent tracking."
The Corgi is a breed known for its long body and short legs, with high activity levels, liveliness, and a thick coat. Especially, the way they waddle with their short legs is considered a representative charm point of the Corgi.
The Corgi's short legs have become an advantage in search operations. Another person in charge at the police dog base, Wang Yanan, explained, "Corgis can use their short legs to search under cars and enter narrow spaces inside rooms."
The main breeds at the local police dog base are Shepherds, Malinois, Rottweilers, Springer Spaniels, and Labradors, which assist in missions such as counter-terrorism, emergency response, and criminal investigations.
Meanwhile, the Corgi is a breed that was used as a herding dog in the Wales region of the United Kingdom. Since they played a role in herding cattle or sheep back into groups, they have characteristics of being brave and sociable.
