Kate Winslet's Dress Sold for Over 100 Million Won
The wooden door from the latter part of the movie 'Titanic,' on which Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Rose (Kate Winslet) clung, was auctioned for a staggering 900 million won range.
On the 26th (local time), the British daily The Guardian reported that the door featured in the final scene of Titanic was sold at Heritage Auctions for $718,750 (approximately 965.3 million won).
The door is known to be part of the doorframe located just above the entrance to the first-class lounge on the Titanic in the film. In the latter part of the movie, Jack, who falls into the water, places Rose on this door that has broken off from the sinking ship, then he falls into the sea and freezes to death.
However, at the time, some pointed out that the door Rose climbed on was large enough to hold Jack as well, so there was no need to have Jack fall into the sea. In response, director James Cameron explained, "Like Romeo and Juliet, Jack had to die. 'Titanic' is a film about love, sacrifice, and death. Love is measured by sacrifice."
The auction price of the 'Titanic' door is higher than the axe from the movie 'Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom' ($525,000, approximately 703.8 million won) and the axe from 'The Shining' ($125,000, approximately 167.6 million won). Also, the black symbiote suit worn by Tobey Maguire in 'Spider-Man 3' was sold for $125,000 (approximately 167.9 million won). Additionally, the chiffon dress Rose wore in the final scene of 'Titanic' was auctioned for $118,750 (approximately 159.2 million won).
