Lee Kang-deok, Mayor of Pohang, encouraging officials by participating in a 'voting experience' to ensure voting rights for disabled voters ahead of the 22nd National Assembly election to be held on April 10.
The event was held by Pohang City in collaboration with the Gyeongbuk Provincial Election Commission at Heezbins Pohang City Hall branch, targeting members of the Pohang Disabled Persons' Association to provide information on voting convenience measures for disabled voters.
In this election, a new rail button-type voting device was introduced to enhance voting convenience and prevent invalid votes, designed for disabled voters with hand tremors or weak muscle strength to use more easily.
During the event, participating members of the disabled organizations directly experienced the newly introduced rail button-type special voting device and improved their understanding of the voting process through a guidebook designed for disabled voters who find the voting procedure challenging.
Mayor Lee Gang-deok, who attended the event, personally tried the rail button-type special voting device and urged special attention to be paid to ensure that disabled voters do not face difficulties when visiting polling stations.
The mayor stated, “We will actively promote voting convenience measures so that socially vulnerable groups can take an interest in elections and participate in voting comfortably. I also hope that all citizens will actively participate in the upcoming election and exercise their precious right to vote, which is a right that must be guaranteed and enjoyed as citizens.”
Pohang City plans to focus its administrative efforts on smoothly conducting election affairs through close cooperation with the Election Commission until the upcoming election, ensuring that citizens can safely exercise their valuable voting rights.
Heezbins, where the voting experience was held, is a social enterprise in Pohang City aimed at creating employment for disabled people.
