Since the Launch of the 8th Civilian Administration, Former District Office Employees Paying Union Dues and Maintaining Union Membership Held Morning Protests in Front of Seo District Office Chief's House, Suspended Last Week
The protests by union members in front of Songgangseok, the mayor of Songpa District, which had continued since the launch of the 8th civil administration, have disappeared.
According to Songpa District, several retirees from the Songpa District Office who had been protesting in front of Mayor Seo's house in the mornings have reportedly stopped since last week.
Initially, the Songpa District union had conflicts while requesting that Mayor Seo also follow the agreements made during the terms of the previous and former mayors.
However, Mayor Seo stated, “I will never tolerate any agreement that infringes on the personnel authority of a mayor elected by the residents,” and did not accept the request.
Afterwards, several retirees protested in front of Mayor Seo's house for 1 year and 8 months.
Despite this, Mayor Seo maintained the position that no compromise against principles was possible, and as a result, they quietly stopped protesting last week.
In particular, after the Songpa District Office union chairman took early retirement at the end of last year and a successor chairman was not elected, the employees’ rejection of the union grew, leading to the suspension of the protests.
Employee B from Songpa District Office said, “There was an attempt to elect a union chairman this year, but employees posted objections saying, ‘Are we going to elect the chairman again by a yes/no vote?’ so a successor chairman has not been elected,” adding, “Now is the time for a labor union led by employees who will guide future generations.”
Officials from Songpa District believe that due to the union’s consistently hardline attitude, it has not gained trust from general employees, making it difficult for the union to exert significant influence going forward.
