Yeongsangang Regional Environmental Office Promotes Inspection of Water Purification Plant Hygiene Management Status

The Yeongsangang River Basin Environmental Office is set to conduct hygiene management inspections at 113 water purification plants within its jurisdiction. This comes as concerns over the occurrence of larvae, including small organisms, increase before and after the summer season.

This inspection will be carried out by a joint inspection team composed of the Yeongsangang River Basin Environmental Office, the Korea Water Resources Corporation (Yeong-Seom River Basin Water Supply Support Center), and the Korea Water and Wastewater Works Association. They plan to check the overall on-site operation and management status, including whether larvae are inhabiting the water purification process.

In particular, the inspection will focus on vulnerability factors for larvae at each process stage, cleanliness inside and outside the purification plants, access restrictions to facilities within the plants, and the presence of insect-proof facilities. At the same time, technical support will be provided to purification plants where hygiene management is insufficient or where there are difficulties in operation and management.

Even after the inspection, additional checks will be conducted on purification plants with poor hygiene management or where on-site and management improvements have not been made, aiming to minimize the possibility of larvae occurrence during the vulnerable summer period.

Park Yeon-jae, head of the Yeongsangang River Basin Environmental Office, stated, “Through the hygiene management inspection of water purification plants, we will make every effort to ensure on-site management so that clean and safe tap water can be supplied to local residents within the jurisdiction.”
