The Most 'Busan-like' Design ... Adding Charm to the Global Hub City Busan City held a 'Communication and Empathy Time' with employees affiliated with the Busan Design Promotion Agency at the Busan Design Promotion Agency.

This event was organized to share the necessity of fostering the design industry that embodies Busan’s unique characteristics and dignity, fitting for a ‘global hub city,’ and to facilitate free communication and in-depth discussions with employees about the vision and implementation strategies for innovation.

Last year, the city announced the ‘2030 Busan Architecture and Urban Design Innovation Plan’ and has been making multifaceted efforts to establish a Busan-style urban design that attracts global attention, turning the city into a regional landmark and elevating its brand value.

Before the meeting, Mayor Park toured the agency’s facilities, examined exhibitions of outstanding design companies’ achievements, personally demonstrated excellent design products, and carefully reviewed the staff’s accomplishments and suggestions, encouraging their hard work.

The Promotion Agency, established in 2007 as a public institution under Busan City, leads the Busan public design innovation project through various activities such as strengthening public design infrastructure, design education and research and development, and collecting advanced overseas design information.

Last year, the agency achieved excellent results, including winning the main prize in the product design category at the ‘Red Dot Design Award,’ one of the world’s top three design awards, for the ‘Busan Standardized Tourist Information System’ it promoted.

During the ‘Employee Communication and Empathy Time,’ about 40 employees of the agency shared the ‘Busan Design Innovation Strategy’ and intensively reviewed key implementation plans.

They also discussed various strategies such as establishing an innovative public-private cooperation (governance) system for design management so that Busan citizens can enjoy excellent public design in their daily lives.

In particular, they freely debated strategic tasks such as creating a design convergence ecosystem, nurturing design convergence talents and expanding growth engines, and advancing the design industry with the staff in charge, reaffirming their commitment to fostering a global design industry hub.

Mayor Park emphasized the importance of urban design and urged the staff to make their best efforts so that the agency can systematically promote diverse design policies.

Afterwards, during the Q&A session, Mayor Park and the employees shared honest opinions about work difficulties and suggestions, making it a meaningful time for communication.

Mayor Park Hyung-jun said, “We will establish Busan’s unique urban design identity, equipped with a natural environment and metropolitan infrastructure, change Busan’s ‘appearance,’ and transform it into a ‘global design leading city.’ I expect the agency to play a leading role in urban design innovation that can provide aesthetic unity throughout the city based on Busan’s philosophy and values.”
