In the Weekly Work Meeting: "Some Public Institutions Forget Sense of Duty, Leading to Lax Discipline and Performance Damage"
Daejeon Mayor Lee Jang-woo has once again strongly ordered organizational innovation and discipline establishment within public institutions under his jurisdiction.
On the 25th, Mayor Lee held a weekly work meeting, inviting standing directors of city-affiliated institutions for the first time since the 8th term of the elected government began, focusing on reinforcing public service discipline following last week's meeting.
The mayor stated, "Daejeon City was the only special/metropolitan city selected as an excellent institution for two consecutive years in the 2023 comprehensive evaluation of proactive administration by local governments conducted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. Additionally, it ranked 2nd to 3rd nationwide in urban brand reputation and 1st in regional resident life satisfaction indices. These achievements owe greatly to the dedication and roles of public officials," but pointed out, "The lax discipline of some public institutions that have forgotten their sense of duty is damaging the accomplishments built over time."
He continued, "If an organization turns selfish, discord arises among executives, and the head of the institution fails to properly exercise organizational command, it indicates a lack of sense of duty," warning, "Any affiliated institution causing discord within the organization will face strong measures regardless of rank or status."
He also emphasized, "Isn't it shameful to hardworking public officials when there are talks that parts of the city organization, operated with citizens' tax money, are not innovating and are being run loosely because of some personnel?" and added, "Expanding the organization by increasing personnel is not a sense of duty; your role is to innovate the organization, improve productivity, and manage personnel efficiently."
He then instructed, "The Audit Committee should discuss and dispatch additional personnel if necessary to conduct thorough audits on public officials' service management."
