Hyundai Mipo and Samho Heavy Industries Change Company Names... Unified as 'HD Hyundai'

HD Hyundai Group's shipbuilding affiliates, Hyundai Mipo Dockyard and Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries, have changed their company names and adopted the group brand.

On the 25th, Hyundai Mipo Dockyard held its "50th Annual General Meeting" at the Hanuri Hall in its Ulsan headquarters and changed its name to 'HD Hyundai Mipo.' At the meeting, the agenda to partially amend the articles of incorporation to change the company name from Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Co., Ltd. to 'HD Hyundai Mipo Co., Ltd. (English name: HD HYUNDAI MIPO CO., LTD.)' was approved.

The new name includes the group name HD Hyundai, which means "realizing humanity's dreams (Human Dreams) with the dynamic energy of humans (Human Dynamics)," aligning the group’s vision and identity.

Additionally, by removing 'Shipbuilding' from the company name, it expressed its intention to expand into future-oriented engineering-centered businesses in line with the changing industrial environment such as decarbonization and digitalization.

Established on April 28, 1975, under the name 'Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Co., Ltd.,' HD Hyundai Mipo grew steadily through initial ship repair and modification businesses. In 1994, it changed its name to 'Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Co., Ltd.' and has since risen to become the world leader in the construction of small and medium-sized vessels.

After changing its name again in 30 years, HD Hyundai Mipo has set a goal to transform from a shipbuilding business into a solution company in the marine mobility sector.

Kim Hyung-kwan, President of HD Hyundai Mipo, said, "With this name change, HD Hyundai Mipo will inherit the founding spirit and emerge as a leading company that continuously creates future value in the marine mobility sector."

HD Hyundai Samho also held its annual general meeting on the same day and approved the agenda to change its company name to 'HD Hyundai Samho (HD Hyundai Samho CO., LTD, abbreviation HSHI).' This is 21 years after Hyundai Heavy Industries officially acquired Samho Heavy Industries, which it had been managing under consignment since 1999, in 2002 and changed the company name to 'Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries' the following year.
