On the 26th, Hwaseong City in Gyeonggi Province will conduct free skin disease screenings for citizens at the Hwaseong City Public Health Center.
Organized in collaboration with the Hansen Business Department of the Korea Hansen Welfare Association Gyeonggi-Incheon Branch, this free screening will have dermatology specialists from the association examine adult skin conditions such as eczema, seborrheic dermatitis, athlete's foot, and allergies.
The Korea Hansen Welfare Association is promoting Hansen's disease projects aimed at eradicating Hansen's disease, and also provides medical and welfare services including relapse prevention, sequelae treatment, rehabilitation projects, and livelihood support.
Shim Jeong-sik, director of the Hwaseong City Western Public Health Center, stated, "Since skin diseases are conditions where prevention is crucial, we urge continuous attention to skin health and prompt screening if any suspicious symptoms arise."
Meanwhile, Hansen's disease is a second-class legally designated infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium leprae infection. Symptoms mainly appear on the skin and nerves, and if not properly treated, it can lead to neurological complications such as numbness in the limbs, leaving lasting disabilities. Therefore, early detection and prompt treatment are essential.
