Goheung Education Development Committee Achieves Scholarship Fund of 30 Billion Won

Established in 2008 with 200 million KRW

Grown 150 times in scale over 16 years

The Goheung-gun Education Development Committee (Chairman Gong Young-min) announced that the educational development fund, which has been raised since 2008 to nurture local talent and improve the educational environment, has exceeded 30 billion KRW.

Three years after the fundraising began, on December 2011, the first phase goal of 10 billion KRW was achieved ahead of schedule. In June 2017, the second phase goal of 20 billion KRW was raised, and in March this year, the third phase goal of 30 billion KRW was reached, growing to 150 times the initial 200 million KRW at the time of establishment.

This meaningful achievement was made possible not only through donations from 725 regular members including residents, hometown supporters, and employees of various institutions including the county office, but also through county government contributions and interest income management.

The raised educational development fund is being used for local students through various educational support projects such as operating the Goheung Education Autonomy Cooperation District, fostering excellent prestigious and specialized high schools, and providing various scholarships.

This year, entrance congratulatory money totaling approximately 149 million KRW was given to 717 students who enrolled in elementary, middle, and high schools in the district, and scholarships amounting to 70 million KRW were awarded to 20 university freshmen who graduated with excellent grades from local high schools. Additionally, other scholarships and educational environment improvement projects such as competitions and overseas cultural experiences for future talents will be funded until the end of the year.

Chairman Gong Young-min said, “The achievement of raising 30 billion KRW in funds was possible thanks to the interest and support from residents, hometown supporters, and public officials from all walks of life,” and added, “We ask for continued interest and participation so that our local talents can grow and bring remarkable results to Goheung education.”
