Hamyang-gun, Gyeongnam Province and City-County Joint Inspection of Water Purification Plant Larvae Response Finds 'No Abnormalities'

Hamyang County in Gyeongnam announced on the 25th that it conducted a joint inspection between Gyeongnam Province and city/county authorities to respond to larvae at local water purification plants to ensure safe tap water supply free from larvae for its residents.

This inspection was carried out on Hamyang Water Purification Plant and Sasang Water Purification Plant following larvae incidents in tap water in other cities and counties over the past few years. Both plants were confirmed to be operating properly without any larvae occurrence.

Hamyang County is conducting a joint inspection with Gyeongnam Province and city/county water treatment plants to respond to larvae.

To respond to larvae, the county has installed sprinklers in coagulation and sedimentation basins to prevent egg laying and fine screens on effluent channels. Additionally, automatic filtration systems have been comprehensively maintained by replacing fine insect screens, and installing air curtains and insect traps to block insects and other external intrusions.

Furthermore, larvae monitoring is conducted daily with visual inspections once a day and microscopic monitoring at least three times a week for each water treatment process.

The county is implementing the ‘Safe Tap Water Confirmation System for Our Homes,’ which residents can actively use to check the quality of their tap water through online applications (Water Love website) or phone requests.

Kim Hak-yang, Director of the Water and Sewage Business Office, stated, “We will do our best to supply safe tap water through regular larvae monitoring for each purification process and continuous hygiene inspections.”
