The Hyundai Motor Chung Mong-Koo Foundation announced on the 25th that it is recruiting 105 new scholarship students in the fields of future industries, culture and arts, and social integration. The Hyundai Motor Chung Mong-Koo Scholarship offers the highest level of scholarship benefits in Korea, including full tuition coverage, study support funds (2.4 million to 3.6 million KRW per semester), scholarships for participating in international competitions and overseas advancement, as well as a fellowship program for scholarship students.
Since 2011, the foundation has operated scholarship programs, supporting over 1,000 middle and high school, undergraduate, and graduate students with a total of 60 billion KRW. In 2021, reflecting Honorary Chairman Chung Mong-Koo’s philosophy of nurturing talent to solve social issues, the scholarship program was completely revamped as the "Hyundai Motor Chung Mong-Koo Scholarship."
This year’s recruitment for the Hyundai Motor Chung Mong-Koo Scholarship covers three areas: future industries, culture and arts, and social integration. The future industries category targets undergraduate and graduate students. Applicants majoring in climate technology and energy, intelligent information technology, and bio-health related fields are eligible to apply.
The foundation selects future talents to respond to carbon neutrality and green growth, and continuously recruits talents in intelligent information technology and bio-health fields to address rapidly changing future industries such as artificial intelligence technology and digital health. Students participating in international academic conferences receive support for participation fees, and scholarship students who publish papers in internationally renowned academic journals or win international competitions are awarded global excellence scholarships.
The culture and arts category targets middle and high school students (including homeschooling) and undergraduates majoring in classical music, Korean traditional music (gugak), and dance. Applicants are selected through video and on-site auditions. Selected scholarship students are provided with various growth program packages, including scholarships for participating in international competitions and awards, as well as the OnDream Young Arts program to strengthen their capabilities as artists.
The social integration category recruits self-reliant youth, North Korean defectors, and multicultural graduate students to expand educational opportunities for socially vulnerable groups. It helps students who wish to continue their studies after undergraduate graduation to focus on their fields without financial burdens. Selected scholarship students receive full tuition coverage, study support funds, scholarships for participating in international competitions, and fellowship programs, the same benefits as other categories.
The "Hyundai Motor Chung Mong-Koo Scholarship" operates networking programs to support the growth of scholarship students. It runs a 3-day, 2-night camp where Korean and international scholarship students interact. Through senior-junior mentoring, it provides networking opportunities among scholarship students by field. At the year-end Homecoming Day, scholarship students from the 1st to the 14th cohorts gather to foster community formation among senior and junior students. The foundation also plans to offer leadership conference opportunities to help scholarship students cultivate character as future talents.
