Gyeonggi-do Conducts Comprehensive Safety Inspections of Fishing Vessels... 74 Ships Until June 21

Gyeonggi Province is launching a safety inspection of fishing boats.


On the 24th, Gyeonggi Province announced that, according to the ‘2024 Safety Transformation Intensive Safety Inspection Implementation Plan,’ it will conduct a full safety inspection of fishing boats in cooperation with city and county governments and related agencies from the 25th of this month until June 21.


The inspection targets 74 fishing boats within the province and will be carried out jointly by local governments, the Coast Guard, the Korea Maritime Transportation Safety Authority, and the National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives at major ports and harbors along the Gyeonggi coastal area.

The main inspection items include ▲entry and exit reporting ▲availability and operation of safety equipment ▲compliance with passenger capacity ▲whether there is drunk driving ▲completion of specialized fishing education. In addition, the inspection will cover the removal of restroom sanitary facilities and the dumping of sewage at sea.


Gyeonggi Province will immediately take on-site corrective actions for minor issues found during the inspection, impose administrative measures for violations of individual laws, and verify whether the pointed-out issues have been addressed.


Kim Bong-hyun, Director of the Marine Fisheries Division of Gyeonggi Province, said, "Through the safety inspection of fishing boats, we expect to raise safety awareness among fishing boat operators and anglers and prevent safety accidents in advance. We will do our best in this joint safety inspection so that residents can enjoy safer leisure activities."
