Burns and heat injuries during overheating... 12 cases reported
Starbucks in the United States is recalling hundreds of thousands of metal mugs introduced as Christmas gift sets.
On the 23rd (local time), the Associated Press reported that the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall of Starbucks mugs after receiving reports that some users suffered burns or heat injuries.
These mugs were produced by Swiss food company Nestl? and sold nationwide at stores such as Target and Walmart from November last year to January this year. The commission stated that a total of 440,000 mugs are involved. Prices ranged from $10, $13, to $20 depending on size (capacity) and whether purchased online or in physical stores.

On the 21st, the commission disclosed the recall, explaining that the mugs can overheat or break when heated in a microwave or filled with hot liquids, posing risks of burns and heat injuries. In fact, 12 incidents related to these mugs have been reported. Nine cases involved severe burns and blisters on fingers, and one case involved a finger injury.
Nestl? USA, which distributes Starbucks brand products, announced the recall and stated, “Product quality, safety, and integrity remain Nestl?’s top priorities. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused to consumers and retailers.”
If you have the affected product, you can apply for the recall on the Nestl? USA website even without a receipt or proof of purchase. Refund processing is possible by attaching a photo of the mug or the identification code attached to the bottom of the product.
